Early Work
Karen started painting at a very young at the age of nine. Her mother was a watercolour artist and back then Karen was immediately interested in producing art. Although she has an appreciation for the watercolour compositions her mother created, Karen was not interested in “seeing through” the paint to the paper below. She encouraged her mother to purchase paint that was opaque. Her acrylic journey and art making then began.
Karen would explore various methods in combining colour and applying the paint to the canvas with unconventional utensils. She often would gather household items such as spatulas, CD cases, and paper plates to use in her experiments.
Karen’s attraction to vibrant colours is something that she can never seem to steer away from. She is always producing work that is impactful and colourful, drawing attention to her experimental style.
