KCP Young Artists Program Philosophy
Building artists from Kindergarten to Grade 8
A progressive visual arts education designed to develop creativity, technical skill, confidence and an understanding of where art can lead. The below mentioned stages are incorporated in the Art Activities classes.
FOUNDATIONS — K–Grade 2
“Learning to See” – Children explore observation, colour, shapes, drawing, painting and creative expression.
DEVELOPMENT — Grades 3–5
“Learning to Create” – Children develop drawing skills, shading, perspective, composition, colour theory, painting techniques and visual storytelling.
ARTIST DEVELOPMENT — Grades 6–8
“Learning to Think Like an Artist” – Students develop more advanced technical skills, personal expression, art appreciation, portfolio pieces and an understanding of creative careers.
